Sturgeon Bay Utilities celebrates Public Power Week October 5-11, 2008 (9/23/08)

Sturgeon Bay Utilities is celebrating the importance of Public Power, October 5-11, during Public Power Week, with more than 2,000 other electric utilities that collectively provide electricity on a nonprofit basis to 45 million Americans.

“Public Power Week honors Sturgeon Bay Utilities hometown service, resulting in reliable, affordable electricity for our community,” said Jim Stawicki, General Manager of Sturgeon Bay Utilities.

Public Power Week is a national, annual event sponsored in conjunction with the American Public Power Association (APPA), the national service organization for community and state-owned electric utilities in Washington, D.C. Public Power Week supports the ongoing theme “Public Power: An American Tradition that Works.” This year marks the 22nd anniversary of Public Power Week as a country-wide program for local citizens and other key publics, including state and national officials.

Sturgeon Bay Utilities invites community members to participate in a variety of Public Power Week events. Activities include:

  • Daily door prizes – one each day (1) battery powered lawnmower, (2) electric grills, (2) $100 credits on the utility bill
  • Refreshments
  • Strobe lights
  • 2009 calendars
  • $25.00 credits on the utility bill (to be drawn at the end of the week)

“We at Sturgeon Bay Utilities are dedicated to providing the highest possible level of service to our customers and in doing so, improving their quality of life,” said Jim Stawicki.
