Water and Sewer services to the new Maritime Plaza development (5/4/07)

Work has commenced on a project intended to extend water and sewer services to the new Maritime Plaza development located at the south edge of the city along STH 42/57. The project, consisting of approximately 920 feet of water and sewer mains is being completed by Atlas Excavating, Inc., located in Oneida, Wisconsin.

The project entails extending the utilities along the south edge of the highway from the Clearwater Plaza development to a point directly across from the Maritime Plaza development. The mains will then be bored beneath the highway by a subcontractor and terminated on the north side of the highway at the entrance to the development. From there, the developer’s contractor, Scott DeNoble Excavating, will connect their on-site utility work with the mains installed by Atlas Excavating.

The overall project will bring water and sewer service to the commercial components of the development just north of the highway. At some point in the future, these mains can be extended and looped to provide services to a proposed residential development north of the commercial development. Upon completion of the projects and acceptance by the City, SBU will be tasked with operating and maintaining these infrastructures as part of the overall water distribution and wastewater collection systems that service the entire City of Sturgeon Bay.

All costs associated with this project are being funded by the City of Sturgeon Bay as part of an annexation agreement that was entered into with the developer in 2006. As part of the agreement, the developer will reimburse the City for all costs associated with the project over a ten-year period.

The Sturgeon Bay Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection systems serve the businesses and residents of the City of Sturgeon Bay.
