Water Department
Sturgeon Bay Utilities (SBU) maintains almost 2.5 million gallons of water storage capacity across four individual pressure systems to ensure that water is delivered to over 4,400 customers when and where it is needed. Over one million gallons of water per day are delivered through the 72 miles of underground pipe that make up our water distribution system to both our ratepayers as well as the 750 fire hydrants that ensure safety in our community.
Throughout the years, SBU has developed and funded numerous programs relating to septic remediation and well abandonment in our zones of contribution. These programs continue as we make every effort to ensure safe drinking water for our ratepayers. |
Although our community is situated near two large bodies of water, Sturgeon Bay obtains its drinking water from a series of deep wells located throughout the City. Certain of these wells utilize a state of the art ozone purification process to remove any harmful bacteria from the raw water.
